The collapse of governance during COVID-19 and corruption of democracy demands that we vote Republicans out up and down the ballot and support candidates who will put people first. Here are some good people to support and things to do, starting here: votesaveamerica.com
In Michigan (my adopted state!) here are three amazing Democrats with strong national security backgrounds and deep local roots: secure.actblue.com/donate/fp4m
Today I'm happy to be doing a fundraiser in support of exactly the kind of brilliant next-generation leader we need - Yassamin has already helped fight climate change at the global level and now she's gone home to make change in Phoenix: secure.numero.ai/contribute/yas…
Dan Feehan is an Iraq War vet, teacher, and former colleague in the Obama Administration. He's also a great guy. Dan almost flipped a congressional district in Minnesota in '18 - help him get it done against a Trump enabler this time: secure.actblue.com/donate/bp_dfc_…
Whatever you can do to help the great @benwikler and Wisconsin Democrats could literally make the difference: wisdems.org
The good news? There are so many great people stepping up to run for office and change politics. Most important - it's not just money, it's organizing, spreading the message, persuading family and friends. Consider adopting a key state here: votesaveamerica.com/states/

1. As the third and final electoral verdict on Donald Trump - and a potential generational shift to Kamala Harris - this election will do much to determine the future of US foreign policy and how the world looks at us.
2. We may be talking about Trump wearing garbage vests and performing sex acts on his microphone, but keep in mind: there are are huge wars happening in Europe and the Middle East and conflict brewing with China. The world is more dangerous and volatile than it was in 2016.
3. A Trump election would validate the U.S. turn to a far-right, autocratic nationalism - boosting that trend globally. A Harris election would represent generational change and affirm multi-racial democracy and sanity - a last word of sorts for 2024's "year of elections"

There is no logic that isn't damning as to why the Washington Post and LA Times feel they can endorse in every local, state and federal election other than a presidential race.
It's not that these endorsements tip the balance in an election; it's that self-censoring because you are afraid of retribution from an authoritarian tells you everything you need to know about the priorities of management.
What's truly depressing is how much this is a mirror to the rot in the American economy and society today: you end up governed by self-interested autocrats when there is no value higher than personal profit.

Bibi speech described a reality that doesn't exist. Lying about cutting off access to food. Lying about civilian casualties. Avoiding responsibility for 10/7 security failure and diplomatic failure to bring hostages home. Seeking applause for unachievable military objectives.
Just imagine what this speech looks like to the rest of the world - a leader who could never even get this kind of reception in Israel given a platform to gaslight in Congress.
Also: Dems should not be giving a platform to someone who uses it to attack all protesters, compares them to Hamas, and mocks them. We should be building a diverse coalition with energized young voters, not attacking and alienating them.

During my 20 years in politics, two destructive trends stand out: the steady radicalization of the Republican Party and the trivialization of politics, particularly the way it is covered by US media and how politicians respond to that dynamic.
The Republican debate stands out for how unsurprising it was that a stage full of people acted like a bunch of kids trying to get admitted to some fascist costume party. Kill people at the border! Prohibit women from any agency over their bodies! Side with Putin! Etc. Etc.
The bridge between radicalization and trivialization (as always) is Trump. Last night, a group of accomplished adults refused to condemn someone who has broken laws related to overthrowing the U.S. government, stealing classified information, violating campaign finance laws, etc

Keep in mind there's no political party or ideological project like Communism propping up the Russian kleptocracy. It's not the CCP or USSR. It's just Putin killing anyone who crosses him and wrapping it in nationalism.
For a while there was plenty of money and the illusion of individual, oligarchic power to go around. But now Putin has catastrophically miscalculated in Ukraine, the money and perks are harder to come by, and more people are getting killed
In the absence of a system or party that needs to perpetuate itself, how long does what passes for the Russian elite see this as a deal that works for them? Anyone knows they could be next to fall off a balcony or die in a plane crash.

AIPAC wants unconditional support for: "a finance minister who has described himself as a proud homophobe, a security minister who was convicted of racist incitement, and an ultra-Orthodox party that proposed fining women for reading the Torah" nytimes.com/2023/07/24/wor…
Democrats need to decide whether democratic values are things that they only talk about when it's easy. Is this a government that should continue to get a blank check coupled with platitudes about democracy?
We stand up against autocratic power grabs in our own country. Meanwhile, we offer platitudes about shared values while Bibi and his extremist coalition persecute Palestinians as a matter of policy and erode Israeli democracy in full view of the entire world.
