I have a test that identifies GRU-Trolls, and it's worked >100×. It's based on the fact that it's relatively easy to *converse* in English (it's a mandatory class in Russian HS), but few Russians can READ English. Cyrillic vs Roman alphabet.

The GRU hires loads of minimum-wage English speakers (and a few English *readers*) to staff their troll operations.

Their software package reads *this* text out loud (easy), and transcribes their responses into English text.

Their software can't tell which version of "there" they intended to use, so it offered them the choice *in English* which one they meant and they'd just guess.

Their software can't read text from an image, however, as that's a WHOLE lot more difficult.

Like all phone banks...

the operators have a flip-book on procedures for what to do, when.
