While Trump demanded schools reopen in the fall the CDC was warning him it constituted “the highest risk” of spreading the pandemic.

They. Do. Not. Care.

Trump hasn’t failed to the fight the pandemic, he hasn’t tried. His objective is to get re-elected. That’s it. Period.
Again. Trump isn’t president to help anyone.

Trump is president to dismantle government as a public good, redistribute wealth from the bottom-up, and turn the presidency into a clearing-house for blatant corruption.

Saving or improving lives next factors into it.
You have to stop treating Trump like he’s a normal president or that any of this is normal.

We have an anti-president in the middle of a massive societal crisis. He will not lead. He will grow into it. He’s a destroyer by nature and he’ll bring every last one of us down with him

Trump is an authoritarian and authoritarians are inherently insecure and incompetent. They create crises, scapegoat others and conspiracies, and then demand more power to fix the crises they caused.

The worse this gets the more dangerous he'll be.

For everyone who keeps calling on Trump to lead or "become president," the truth is that not only will that not happen but it's impossible.

Trump is incapable of leading. As an authoritarian, his nature is to explicitly divide, scapegoat, and inflict violence.
There is nothing about Trump that could alleviate suffering or marshal resources for common good. He's president to consolidate power, expedite personal profit, and dismantle government as an impediment to corruption.

You cannot view Trump as a traditional president.

People need to understand that Donald Trump is an authoritarian and that authoritarians are defined by their insecurity and incompetence.

They are incapable of forming communities, will inevitably make a problem worse, and then find any scapegoat.

This vilification of Dr. Anthony Fauci was always going to happen. Authoritarians HATE experts because their very existence is proof that the authoritarian doesn't possess all knowledge as a sole entity.

What we're watching now is the desperate scapegoating stage.

What I'm talking about is a predictable cycle that occurs with authoritarians.

They will fail. They will lie. They will scapegoat experts, vulnerable populations, and then claim a conspiracy against them.

They'll use that "conspiracy" to demand more power.

Maybe if the Right stopped warring against public education and teachers and started treating it like a vital institution essential to the health, wellbeing, and safety of children instead of a necessary evil to restart the economy and actually funded it we could get somewhere.
Because we should reopen schools. For the sake of children. But we should inject the system with support necessary to do it safely and spur innovation. And we should treat it with respect instead of a place to drop kids off on the way to get infected at work.
Instead we just get incompetent bullies like Trump and DeVos, both of them obsessed with destroying education, just screaming to send kids back to school and offering zero plans for safety. It’s complicated and nuanced. Just doing it will be a disaster.
