|| राम नाम - a Veda by itself ||
राम is a Tāraka Mantra, the utterance or invocation of which, is the only cure for the disease of संसार (worldly ties).

In this thread, let us try to drink the sweet honey of राम नाम and analyse various interpretations of this name.

It is believed that a child gets all its qualities from one who names it.

वसिष्ठः परमप्रीतो नामानि कुरते तदा
(वा. रा. 1-18-22)

Here,Vasishta,the son of Brahma,the one who has controlled all his senses and whose knowledge is deeper than ocean,named the newborns of Dasaratha.

रामेति मधुरां वाणीं विश्वामित्रोऽभ्यभाषत
(वा रा 1-22-11)

Viswamitra was initially reluctant to call the name of राम as it was given by Vasishta but later resorted to the same after comcluding that there could never be any name as sweet as राम .

Now let us see various interpreations of the name.

रमंते सर्वे जनाः गुणैः अस्मिन् इति रामः
" In whom all people take delight for his virtuousness is Rāma."

In other words, in whose mercy and dharma the whole world seeks refuge is Rāma.

Tulsidas says,
सो सुखधाम राम उस नामा ।
अखिल लोक दायक बिक्षामा ।।

"Rāma is the ocean of happiness. One drop of which,gives peace and rest,to the whole world"

Here, Tulasidas says Rāma means, the preserver of the entire world, upon whose presence there exists peace and harmony.

'रा'- light/energy 'म'- matter/body
When energy enters matter it becomes राम.
Let us view the above sentence is two ways.
1.
If, 'energy'=ātma & 'matter'=body :

When ātma enters body it becomes राम.

In other words, it denotes the unification of soul and our body.

2. If, 'energy'= jeevatma & 'matter'= paramatma :

If jeevatma enters paramatma it becomes राम.

In other words, if denotes the unification of jeevatma with paramatma - the Moksha/liberation.

Now, reverse the letters and see.
म= matter/body रा=light/energy

When matter stays and energy leaves it becomes 'मरा'

Now apply to the two scenarios as above.

1. When ātma leaves body it becomes 'मरा'- 'the dead'.

The most astonishing meaning comes in the second scenario.

2. When jeevatma leaves paramatma it becomes 'मरा'.

The another meaning of 'मरा' is transit.

It implies that, when jeevatma leaves paramatma it transits into another body to become राम again.

Thus, राम defines the endless cycle of birth and death.

"पुणरपि जननं पुणरपि मरणं"

रम्यते अनेन इति रामः । रमते इति रामः ।

"He by whom one gets eternally entertained is Rāma and the one who is always entertained and bliss is राम"

राम is the only one who is capable of giving us the eternal bliss.

In other words, He is the one who grants Moksha to us.

र=light & म=mind(मनस्)
"The one who takes our minds towards enlightment is राम. "

राम is not only the giver of Moksha but also enlightens us and shows the path towards Moksha. And that is why Valmiki named His story as "रामायण"- "the eternal path of राम"

रमा is the name of Mahalakshmi.

Hence, राम means the one who has the company of रमा.

The word 'राम' is the combination of both Ashtakshara Mantra and Panchakshara Mantra.

ऊँ नमो नारायणाय - Ashtakshara
ऊँ नमः शिवाय - Panchakshara

The name 'राम' is made of two main aksharas namely,
रा from Ashtakshara and
म from Panchakshara.

If you remove रा from Ashtakshara,the mantra becomes meaningless.And if म is removed from Panchakshara,the mantra's meaning becomes absurd. Hence,राम is both Mahavishnu and Maheshwara.
While destroying evils he becomes Maheshwara and while protecting prajās he becomes Mahavishnu.

राम is Vedas personified and his life gives the meaning of It. Hence, राम नाम is just not a name but a Veda by itself.

Parameshwara says :
"Chanting the name of राम thrice gives the benefit of chanting 1000 names of Vishnu"
