This op-ed in the US imperial propaganda mouthpiece the NY Times is not something to be celebrated. On the contrary: this is textbook astroturfing

All the "grassroots" groups this NYT article wants us to support are astroturfed ops funded by Democrat billionaires and foundations
The NY Times, which has supported fascist US coups and wars against every actually existing socialist govt in history, wants you to believe the left, which is weaker now than ever, is "remaking the world"

The 3 groups it cites as an example are foundation-funded astroturfed NGOs
Democrat billionaires and big corporate foundations fund these "grassroots" "progressive" orgs expressly in order to try to contain popular uprisings, de-radicalize them, and control them, directing popular enthusiasm into support for the Democratic Party and piecemeal reforms.
The NY Times-endorsed Black Visions Collective is funded the "Minneapolis Climate Action and Racial Equity Fund, a partnership of the city of Minneapolis, the Minneapolis Foundation and the McKnight Foundation"

This is an astroturfed Big Green op
startribune.com/minneapolis-fu…
NYT-endorsed NGO Mijente is funded by billionaire astroturfing group Borealis Philanthropy, which is funded by Ford Foundation, OSF, etc.

Mijente claims to support Latino rights but NEVER challenges the US imperialist war on Venezuela, Cuba, & Nicaragua (because it's bipartisan)
The NYT-endorsed Sunrise Movement is a Democratic Party astroturfed NGO funded by huge billionaire foundations that has de-radicalized the Green New Deal (originally proposed by the Green Party), by removing discussion of war and the US military - world's largest consumer of oil
If you think of yourself as a leftist and you find groups you support getting favorable coverage in imperialist propaganda weapons like the NY Times and The Guardian, you really need to start reconsidering your views and ask if they truly are revolutionary, or are being co-opted.
These huge foundations like Ford, Rockefeller, Open Society, etc. functioned as CIA cutouts during the Cold War.

US leftists need to understand the key role the non-profit industrial complex plays as a form of counterinsurgency. They're not your friends

During the Cold War, the Ford Foundation (which got its enormous wealth from pro-Nazi oligarch Henry Ford) worked with the CIA and capitalist West German government to support terror operations by ex-Nazis against socialist East Germany
This extremely important book The Cultural Cold War documents how the Ford Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation have long been "conscious instruments of covert US foreign policy, with directors and officers who were closely connected to, or even members of American intelligence"
The Rockefeller Foundation, like Ford, "was an integral component of America's Cold War machinery." Both were and still are closely linked to the CIA and other US government agencies and are used as pass-throughs to fund counter-insurgency, culture war, and psychological warfare.
The capitalist vultures are swooping in to co-opt the US uprising against racism and state violence:

Regime-change billionaire George Soros (a close ally of the US govt/CIA) and his Open Society Foundations are pouring $220 million to co-opt the movement
opensocietyfoundations.org/newsroom/open-…
As I documented in this thread, the stated goal of billionaire Soros' Open Society Foundations is to "transition" societies away from socialism into liberal capitalism.

All of these corporate foundations are doing counterinsurgency for the US police state
Here the thoroughly CIA-infiltrated Rockefeller Foundation, which has a revolving door with the US gov't, talks openly about its plans for a (neoliberal imperialist) "Great Reset" to combat systemic racism, Covid-19, and climate change.

Counterinsurgency
rockefellerfoundation.org/blog/rebuildin…
The strategy is simple: Huge CIA-linked, billionaire-funded foundations like Ford, Rockefeller, and OSF are pouring hundreds of millions of $ into liberal reformist groups that will co-opt the revolutionary mass movement in the US, water down its demands, and make it DNC-friendly
