Thread: Following is a brief speech I've written for @JoeBiden. Its principal purpose is to go on record saying that a Biden Administration will pursue Trump related crimes "without fear or favor." Saying so now is, I believe, important.
START: "If I’m elected, I pledge that we’ll again have a Government that serves *all* the people. A Government committed to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism. A Government that is, above all, committed to a restoration of law and justice.
While many departments of Government have been severely damaged, and must be rebuilt, none has been so undermined as the Department of Justice. DOJ must never again be allowed to become a partisan political tool. The Nation cannot, and will not, allow that to continue.
I pledge to appoint an Attorney General of the utmost integrity and professionalism. An Attorney General committed to the even-handed administration of justice, and a revival of the Department’s proud tradition of non-partisanship. Lady Justice is, indeed, blind.
In that spirit, I want to make clear that, if it appears that laws have been broken by *any* member of the current Administration, and the Attorney General determines that prosecution is appropriate under the laws, I will give the Attorney General my full support.
We are a nation of laws, not men. Proper enforcement of the laws, without fear or favor, is one of the strongest ties that bind us as a people. We are enduring, and hope shortly to bring to an end, one of the most lawless and corrupt chapters in our history.
Before voters go to the polls in November, they should know that a Biden Administration will be committed to the vigorous enforcement of the laws, wherever that may lead us. As President, I will fulfill my Constitutional oath to "see that the laws are properly executed."
Let there be no cries of ‘triumphalism’ and ‘partisan revenge’ if figures of the current administration find themselves called to account through the even-handed application of the laws. Laws must be enforced or they will be flouted again. That we cannot afford." END
