This 800 Yrs old Ramappa Temple is the greatest testimony of how Indian Temples have been surviving the Earth Quakes for hundreds of years.

The “Saikata Petika” or “Sand Box” technique used in ancient India was used predominantly used by Kakatiya Rulers to built their temples like Thousand Pillared Temple & Ramappa Temple.
In this technique - below the basement a box filled mixture of Sand, Lime, Jaggery and Myrobalan fruit were filled. This acts like a cushion and observes the seismic waves protecting the foundation of the temple.
Unique part of this is usage of sand. Our ancestors knew that Sand will be the longest surviving agent.

When most of the advanced Anti-Earthquake techniques today are valid for 30 Yrs this Sand Box technique is more relevant even today.
