Imam Bukhari in his book "Aadab al Mufraad" and many others relate the narration of Ibn `Umar and also a similar narration from Ibn `Abbas whereby they would call out "Yaa Muhammad" ﷺ whenever they had a problem to attain blessings and cure by the will of Allah ﷻ

Abu Nu’aym related to us who said that Sufyan ibn ʽUyaynah related to us from Abu Ishaq from Abdur Rahman ibn Sa’d, who said:

Abdullah Ibn Umar (RadiyAllahu anhu) Some time after Rasul Allah, (May Allah bless him and grant him peace), had passed away,

‘Abd Allah Ibn ‘Umar [May Allah be pleased with Him] was in Najd where one day suffered from a cramp in his leg. As a remedy to alleviate the pain, a man said to him. “Remember the one whom you love the most!” Upon hearing this Ibn ‘Umar [May Allah be pleased with Him]

said “Yaa Muhammad!" [May Allah bless him and grant him peace]” and his leg pain was immediately relieved.

►Ibn Taymiyyah has also mentioned this narration in his book “Al Kalim At-Tayib”with a hasan grade.

It is significant to say that the hadith master Imam Bukhari didn‘t consider saying "Yaa Muhammad" shirk or haram and endorsed this act.

It is also important to mention that if we follow those who say that saying "Yaa Muhammad" is shirk then we will have to accept that likes of

Imam Bukhari, Imam Nawawi, and Imam Shawkani and other well established and important scholars of Islam are calling the common man towards shirk.

It is also clear from Imam Bukhari going to such lengths as forming a entire chapter title separately on this particular topic, it

Shows the belief of the muhaddith and great Imam. Whenever an Imam forms a chapter on a particular topic we come to know about the agreement regarding that persons acknowledgement of the permisibilty of this act.

These kind of books such as Al-Adab al-mufrad, Al-Adhkar

and Tuhfat al-dhakirin. They were all written seperateley with the chosen hadiths at hand with the intention and purpose for the people to act upon the ahaadith in them at various times according to their problems and solutions for those problems.

From this we can conclude that even the companions through their love of the beloved of Allah ﷻ Sayidina Rasoolallah ﷺ called out his blessed name in order to attain blessings and use it as a wasilah and Tawassul to Allah ﷻ as a means to obtain cure and resolve their problems.
