“The rules are applied with extreme selectivity. If a person’s ideology is in keeping with the new orthodoxy, they & their work remain unscrutinized. Everyone else lives in fear of the digital thunderdome. Online venom is excused so long as it’s directed at the proper targets” 2/
A key point here is the hypocrisy of senior editors tolerating a work environment in which things said about one person are OK but if said about some other person would ignite outrage. It’s not the nastiness per se that is so awful, but its selectivity. 3/
