So I finally got the #SlaveRolls index up for anyone to use. Civil War historians who study a specific region or place can now easily zero in on rolls from that area. @Patriot_Pat1 and I worked hard to get these indexed so we hope you find it useful.

It is not a perfect dataset yet (and we hope to add features in the future) but it will help historians find useful documents so it is time to let folks use it. We look forward to hearing what you find. It's in excel for now but we hope to create a standalone site eventually.
I suspect some public history folks will find this useful for finding information about specific history sites. @PetersburgNPS @RichmondNPS @ChickamaugaNPS @GulfIslandsNPS @FtSumterNPS @FortPulaskiNPS @HistoricChas may find some interesting information here.
Also colleges examining their own history of slavery will find interesting things here...@slaveryuva @HSUGA7 @CofC @ProfessorTwitty @HilaryGreen77 As might anyone studying slavery including @SlaveAdverts250 @Dr_ShannonEaves @sejr_historian (numerous female slave owners included).
Those studying the battlefield may also find this useful as a source that will let them explore the lives of African American laborers (frequently runaways are listed as well). Really anyone studying the war. @KevinLevin @AndrewSBledsoe @whsieh @PeterCarmicha15 @megankatenelson
In addition to enslaved people, free people of color, white civilians, & soldiers (and building rentals) appear throughout the rolls. They could be useful in the classroom too. @davidsilkenat @CarrieJanney @PhUsct @colinewoodward @KeriLeighMerrit @CivilWarMonitor may enjoy them.
Perhaps genealogists (@ngsgenealogy @Ancestry @CristaCowan @ProGenealogists) might also find it a useful source. Please share widely.
And this couldn't have been done with out the @USNatArchives actually doing the digitizing of the documents. Hopefully this index will make the source more accessible and easier to use.
