@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm True. Lets looks this matter from another angle . In USA contract famers (industrial scale milk producers, broilers, layers , ships and pigs) plant their own crops in thousand of hectares so as to have enough grain to last them entire season while manufacturering own feeds why??
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm The reason why they do this is to have a reserve throughout the season so that they may not be caught off guard if they were to rely on supply chain for distribution of raw materials for own feed Making production when the supply chain prices fluctuates with climate and demand
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm The most brilliant man to ever walk on earth was Albert Eistein . He said that you can not solve a problem at the same extent at which you created it. This means the solution to maize crisis may not necessarily be more maize but what else can do as well or better than corn.
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm The best solution to corn crisis will be to reduce over reliance on it and find other better alternative . This doesn't mean replacing maize complitly buy compliment it with other grains. Native grains like peral millet/Bajra and sorghum performs exceptionaly well in offseason.
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm Why should we plant maize in offseason. First is it even economical viable even if its possible?? . Pearl millet/Bajra have been used in india successful as maize alternative because of unreliable rainfall , it requires less rainfalls, it drought resistant & rivals maize nutrient
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm The second reason why maize of season may not be the smartest choice is the climatic factor in relation to cost of production and Sustainability. The ecological zones that maize can perform well are very few compared to pearl millet's that means maize restricts us to limited land
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm The cost of producing pearl meal millet may be less compared to maize because of the resiliant Factor of millet . So its make more sense to replace maize with millet offseason expetialy if water is an issue. Also pearl millet can be planted in semi arid areas which is an advantag
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm The fact that pearl millet have been tested to work exceptionally well in india and it can replace maize by 50% in feeds this means we have recuced the maize hustle by a half. With less input than planting more maize season after season.
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm Most importantly the topic everyone is pretending to ignore. Global warming. We need to change the way we farm , we need more trees planted not for timber but for future of our childrens. A rich man see land and see real estate and industies but untill we see trees we are selfish
@sharonjcheboi @olusegunyemi @SeruyaFarm We need to buy more land for reforestation purpose alone, we need to conserve more rain water . Making temporary rivers permanent and ground water recharging . Yes its possible it have been done in india within months by community cooperation with brilliant experts brains.
