They're actually canceling journalism. Like, as a human activity. Everyone fired, under-funded and unable to report, or serving fickle oligarchs. But shoot-from-the-hip, power-flattering commentary is profitable, and we have to listen to those people complain about cancel culture
In the entire English language, how many staff newspaper foreign correspondents still exist, with the resources to actually gather their own information, rather than rely on think tanks and NGOs and governments? How many local papers are adequately covering municipal corruption?
The one thing you can still get paid (handsomely) to do is agitate from the right against political correctness and the liberal center, never calling anyone or reading very much and just saying whatever, and it is precisely them that for some reason have driven recent discourse
