I'd apologise for how passionate I am about creating space for self diagnosed folks, but that would be a lie and I'm entirely not sorry.
When you're self diagnosed, community space and support is ALL YOU HAVE because you don't qualify for 'official' support.

I'd rather a hundred people self diagnose themselves incorrectly than one autistic person be denied the community support they need.
And this doesn't just go for autism, but autism is my area, so that's what I feel qualified to discuss.

Hannah Gadsby straight up saying that she was starting off her show in a way that wouldn't necessarily endear people to her because often autistic people don't make the best first impression and she wanted to reward people who bothered to stick around was a power move.
Also telling everyone she was going to place the mic on the ground rather than dropping it due to her noise sensitivity, because even though it may lessen the effect her comfort was more important, and then telling the audience not to be ableist about it was also a power move.
Also also, declaring that if people were expecting this show to be like Nanette they were going to be disappointed because she was fresh out of trauma to share with them, and also judging the audience slightly for enjoying her talking about her trauma so much, was a power move.

People who self diagnose KNOW that they can't access official services without an official diagnosis, but self diagnosis at least brings them a community of some sorts to help where the official services won't. That's what's so cruel about anti-self diagnosis rhetoric.
You're all out here going 'BUT SELF DIAGNOSIS IS BAD BECAUSE THEN YOU CAN'T ACCESS SERVICES' when the reality is that when diagnosis is gatekept by a racist, sexist medical system, people who are failed by it turn to self diagnosis because community support is all they have.
All those things you're screaming about why self-diagnosis is bad? The lack of access to services?

That's WHY people self-diagnosis, you absolute liabilities, so that in the absence of services they at least have something that can support them.

Shipping is often an incredibly important thing through which queer women and trans folks figure out their identity, so dislike shipping all you want but don't minimise or shit on it when talking about LGBTQIA+ representation, for fuck's sake.
This is especially true for queer and trans neurodivergent people (I.e. me, a queer autistic woman), so maybe just back the fuck up with your anti-shipping superiority complex?
Some shipping culture is awful, and toxic, because some fandom culture is awful, and toxic.

Shipping is not beyond reproach.

But I will defend to the death the importance of shipping as a part of the queer and trans experience.
