The Sangam may not be explicitly religious , but whenever the early poems referred to religious practice, one discerns Hindu observance as in the worship of Mayon or Vishnu, Seyon or Murugan, Kotravai or Durga, Venthan or Indra, and Varuna. 2/n

Tolkappiar mentioned three deities Kodinilai, Kanthazi and Valli in Porul Adhikaram—Purath thinai Iyal. Ilampuranar says Kodinilai is the Sun, Kanthazi is Fire (Agni) and Valli is the Moon. Anyone with common sense can relate it to Vedic gods Indra and Varuna 3/n

Though Sangam Tamil text does not mention Shiva, it has has many references to Shiva without using the word ‘’Shiva’’. His attributes as we see in the Yajur Veda such as Trinetra, Neelakanda etc, are there in the Sangam Tamil literature. 5/n
