In the first installment of #IETheIssue, we're looking at the recent history of police violence against Black people in America and at the protest movement that has emerged since George Floyd's killing. Here's why we think that's important. ietv.co/2B9jH5d
Today is the 6th anniversary of Eric Garner's death. His mother @RealGwenCarr spoke to @Mayanyani about his legacy, and George Floyd's devastatingly similar death. "I had this feeling like, ‘no, this is not happening again.'" #IETheIssueietv.co/3jbgG5n
.@johannacli, @vixmarin and @zeeaabdo asked a dozen Black Americans to give their oral history of this moment, with a both simple, but nuanced question: What is it like to be Black in America, and what do you hope it will mean going forward? #IETheIssueietv.co/3hdauZ4
The pandemic put many performing arts on hold, but then the murder of George Floyd split the world open. Comedians @LilRel4, @Justsydnyc, @yedoyeOT and @janellejcomic discussed how Black artists are responding to this moment. #IETheIssueietv.co/3jdtjge
When it comes to racial injustice, Los Angeles has an unparalleled history. And Donny Joubert has lived through it all. Here's why he says this moment is different. #IETheIssueietv.co/3jdzCk6
“When did my baby become a threat to you?” De-escalation training isn’t mandatory for police officers, and advocates say too often, the burden to defuse an encounter falls on Black people. #IETheIssueietv.co/3jfOWMY
Two Virginia teens, the @brownballerinas, went viral for their photo in front of a Robert E. Lee statue in Richmond that has been at the center of several protests. This is their story. #IETheIssueietv.co/30nFwq6
“It was peaceful and filled with love until the police came." Before starting her internship with us, @zeeaabdo went to a protest in Minneapolis. This is her first person account of what happened that day. #IETheIssueietv.co/2Wup8Ts
A community memorial to George Floyd has sprung up at the corner of Chicago Ave and 38th St in Minneapolis. @zeeaabdo captured a series of moments from the locals who continue to gather to honor his memory. #IETheIssueietv.co/2Ce6857
A sort of silent apartheid exists in the U.S., according to South Africans who lived through that time period. We spoke to @futbolprof, @SPOEK_MATHAMBO, and Nelson Mandela’s grandson @NdabaMandela about the ongoing parallels they see today. #IETheIssueietv.co/3jctZ5J
Despite recent strides in New York, police records are still completely confidential in many states, which experts say has led to a culture of secrecy that protects corrupt officers from being held accountable. #IETheIssueietv.co/3h5aZnC
“It's like a tsunami of trauma.” @Mayanyani spoke to experts about how George Floyd’s death reignited the deep-seated racial trauma affecting Black people’s mental health. #IETheIssueietv.co/2Wux9I5
For many, no amount of police reform will fix the disproportionate use of violent force against Black and brown people. This is abolitionist @zola_ellen’s vision for what’s next for Minneapolis. #IETheIssueietv.co/32olRcm
“This moment in history is different.” Ruby Bridges’ classmate spoke to us about living through the school desegregation crisis. While she remains optimistic, to her, radical change is subjective. #IETheIssueietv.co/2B9SaAD
We went to a protest in New York City to ask protesters why they attended. Their answers varied, but they were all united in their stance that #BlackLivesMatter. #IETheIssueietv.co/2ZD3H4B
New York is full of protest art. From memorials to George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, to reminders of social justice movements of the past, here are some of the inspiring pieces we found. #IETheIssueietv.co/2ZAPcOW

It was a crime of passion that had every New Yorker rapt with attention in the summer of 1972. 3 armed men entered a Brooklyn bank, thinking it would be a straightforward heist, but fate had other plans. The event would go on to inspire a classic film. #NewYorkGritty 🎞️🧵:
1/ On Aug. 22, 1972, John Wojtowicz, Salvatore Naturile & Robert Westenberg attempted to rob a bank in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Gravesend. Unbeknownst to them, the money in the vault had already been collected earlier that day, leaving the branch with half the funds expected.
2/ Within minutes of the robbers entering the bank, a teller triggered an alarm that alerted police to the crime unfolding. Cops dashed to the scene on Avenue P in and formed a perimeter around the bank. 1 of the 3 would-be robbers fled once police showed up.
A new study shows that cats may be just as affectionate as dogs. The study, which was published in Current Biology, found that pet cats also have distinct attachment styles toward their owners in the same way dogs and babies do. 🧵 ietv.co/3iWev78
1/5 The research, which was done by a team at Oregon State University, also found that 64 percent of cats showed what is known as a "secure" attachment style.
2/5 What does that mean? These cats showed no signs of distress when their caregivers left the room and a healthy mix of attachment and exploration when they returned.
