His theories were inspired by a book by his cousin Charles entitled "On the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life." Charles (Darwin) approved of Galton's work.

So unlikely it was invented to "justify slavery" or anything in Murka. He also came up with some statistical concepts you may have heard of: correlation, standard deviation and the normal distribution.

Eugenics was born out of the birth of statistics as we know it and the knowledge of natural selection.
