In the run up to the glorious 12th there will undoubtably be an increase in activity amongst certain parties in respect of the incidence and frequency of raptor persecution. Some will be real, some will be fabricated, others will be regurgitated from years past and some will

simply be ‘missing BoPs’, which could easily mean they have died of natural causes, something many wild creatures do.
Before progressing with this thread I have a message to anyone who does kill Raptors. You don’t represent me, you don’t represent the form of land use which I

know can deliver such outstanding biodiversity rewards. You do no good in these actions whether through ignorance of design. So please, please stop it, otherwise I hope you find yourself with nothing less than a custodial sentence.

Having got that off my chest I get to the purpose of this thread. From the 1st of August and on each day running up to the ‘Glorious Twelfth’ I will provide a personal observation taken from the frequently referred to (by some) piece of ‘reference’ material – Inglorious.

I will seek to apply my personal thoughts on context, provide a modicum of balance where I deem it to be lacking and in effect ask some questions of both the reader and the author. It is not a ‘blow by blow’ rebuttal which was asked for in return for the loan of the book.

Why? For starters I have a job that requires my attention and a family even more so. And then there are, ironically, hands on conservation activities, coppicing, thinning, predator control, planting and feeding that all takes time.

It is during these activities I am lucky enough to observe, in a more than a casual way, the species that occupy the same patch as I do. Furthermore, I am fortunate to be employed in an industry which takes me to the remote uplands of Wales & Scotland,

some of these areas being managed for shooting and some not.
