Lewis began his nearly 60-year career in public service leading sit-ins at segregated lunch counters in the Jim Crow-era South.

He elevated that fight for freedom and equality with a speech at the Lincoln Memorial at the 1963 March on Washington. trib.al/69L4WWZ
Lewis called it a moral obligation to stand up for his beliefs.

That drive for service motivated him to run for Congress, where he represented the Atlanta area in the House for more than 30 years. trib.al/y4AwsWH
Lewis was known not only for his dedication to equality and justice but also for his unique and moving oratory.

He was revered by fellow lawmakers for his ability to capture a moment and inspire others to action, a skill he honed from his earliest days. trib.al/o19pTZD
In December, Lewis revealed his diagnosis of advanced-stage pancreatic cancer.

"I have been in some kind of fight — for freedom, equality, basic human rights — for nearly my entire life. I have never faced a fight quite like the one I have now," he said. trib.al/FtEpdJi
"The world has lost a legend; the civil rights movement has lost an icon," the Congressional Black Caucus said in a statement on Lewis' death. trib.al/XlG0h3B

NEW: The White House is warning it will have to wind down a program that pays to test, treat and vaccinate uninsured people for COVID-19 because the administration has run out of money for the program, which Congress failed to include in funding legislation.
Another immediate impact will be an end to federal funding for monoclonal antibodies, a treatment that had been provided free of charge.

Starting next week, the White House said it will cut allocations to states by more than 30% to try to stretch its existing supplies.
The government cannot buy more oral antiviral treatments like Paxlovid beyond the 20 million treatments already secured, and needs to scale back planned purchases of preventative treatments for immunocompromised people, the White House said.

#BREAKING: In remarks from the White House, President Trump again falsely claimed victory in the 2020 election. He has not won. Votes continue to be counted.

Trump also made a series of baseless, false claims about allegations of voter fraud.
Trump falsely claimed that "If you count the legal votes, I easily win" and claimed late votes were being counted.

Votes currently being counted in states are legal and were cast by or on Election Day.
Trump attacked the "voting apparatus" in Georgia, which he claimed was run by Democrats.

The Georgia Secretary of State is a Republican.

NEW: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said Senate Republicans are unveiling their coronavirus relief bill tonight.

McConnell said the bill will include another round of direct payments to Americans in the same amount that was in the CARES Act that Congress passed in March.
McConnell said there would be a supplement to unemployment benefits included in the bill.

He did not reveal the details on the amount, but made it clear he didn’t support extending the current $600 a week unemployment benefits.
McConnell also indicated there would be money for schools, for testing, for additional loans to small businesses, and legal protections for health care workers and businesses in the bill, as well as a plan to manufacture PPE in the U.S.

#BREAKING: The Supreme Court has ruled that President Trump is not “categorically immune” from having his financial records released to a New York grand jury.

The decision was 7-2.
"In our judicial system, 'the public has a right to 'everyman’s evidence.' Since the earliest days of the Republic, 'every man' has included the President of the United States," Chief Justice John Roberts wrote in the majority opinion.
In a second case, the Supreme Court ruled 7-2 that a lower court needs to consider separation of power issues related to congressional subpoenas of President Trump's tax returns.

The decisions mean Trump’s financial records likely won't be released before Election Day.
