1/ What’s happening politically in America is the tip of an iceberg, the external reflection of a huge underlying struggle. It’s a contest between two competing visions of what America should be.
2/ Some of us find diversity appealing, a potential kaleidoscope of genius, an explosion of cultural brilliance the likes of which could only happen here. We’re excited by it and proud of it.
3/ But what to some of us seems beautiful and enriching, to others feels like cultural annihilation - an overwhelming assault on their identity against which they must defend.
4/ The fear that they will be left behind is now exploited, of course, by a master manipulator who understands their fear because he feels so much of it himself. Being destructive, he fears destruction because he subconsciously feels that he deserves it.
5/ Compassion is our only way out of this. Feel compassion for those who fear you, because love is to fear what light is to darkness. In the presence of one the other dissolves. Only love will win the war because it will take us above the battlefield.
