She is right. Most actors and crew got paid similar amounts or less and I had to forfeit my entire fees to make GOW. Funny thing is we still own 50%IPR on GOW and we have never seen a penny on it or know about it’s income. For the studio it’s still a flop. hindustantimes.com/bollywood/rich…
Despite the film being seen the world over and playing on various OTT platform, according to them they haven’t made any money on a film that was made under 18 Cr. And then they actually Once few years back asked me to make a part 3.
Anyways that’s how most studios work here. Only studio that has consistently send us reports on the business of the films is/was UTV .

कल कंगना का interview देखा। एक समय में मेरी बहुत अच्छी दोस्त हुआ करती थी। मेरी हर फ़िल्म पे आके मेरा हौसला भी बढ़ाती थी। लेकिन इस नयी कंगना को मैं नहीं जानता। और अभी उसका यह डरावना इंटर्व्यू भी देखा जो मणिकर्णिका की रिलीज़ के बिलकुल बाद का है
Success और ताक़त का नशा हर किसीको बराबर बहकाता है , चाहे वो insider हो या outsider। “मुझसे सीखिए , मेरे जैसा बनिए”, यह बात मैंने २०१५ से पहले उसके मुँह से कभी नहीं सुनी। और तब से अब तक बात यहाँ आ पहुँची है कि जो मेरे साथ नहीं है वो सब मतलबी और चापलूस हैं।

मित्रों..ग़ज़ब डिबेट चल रही है।फ़िल्मों में सिर्फ़ ऐक्टर्ज़ नहीं होते।एक फ़िल्म के सेट ओर कम से कम डेढ़ सौ लोग काम करते हैं।अंदर वाले या बाहर वाले जिस दिन सेट पे काम करने वाले असिस्टंट्स और workers, Spotboy और बाक़ी सब इंसानों को इज़्ज़त देना सीख जाएँगे तब उनसे बात की जा सकती है
चाहे वो बात nepotism के बारे में हो या फ़ेव्रटिज़म के बारे में हो ।पहले इन सेट ओर काम करने वालों से एक बार पूछ लो की कौन सा ऐक्टर या डिरेक्टर या जो भी हो , वो सबसे ज़्यादा बदतमीज़ है या किस ऐक्टर के नाम से वो उस फ़िल्म में काम करने से मना कर देते हैं
फिर जा कर उन ऐक्टर के सेट्स पे , जहां जब कमान, तथाकथित ऐक्टर के हाथ में आ जाती है . उस फ़िल्म के सपोर्टिंग ऐक्टर्ज़ के पुराने इंटर्व्यू पढ़ लो की वो क्यों फ़िल्म छोड़ के गए थे। तुम जैसा दूसरों के साथ रहोगे वैसा ही वापस भी मिलेगा।

This is a thread on BulBul. It’s very rarely that a first film has this kind of an impact on me . I just wasn’t expecting it. I had read the script years ago. It’s in my mailbox . It had the vision, it had everything that’s in the film but it still wasn’t this what I saw..
I remember the films that have given me a career , be it a Black Friday or GOW, didn’t make the kind of impact on the first cut that it did finally. First cuts are often close to the scripts . Which means the script had everything but wasn’t the final film.
Every time we’ve spent time in recognising & chipping away at it to find the film, most times the result is a film that’s satisfying & sometimes can also go wrong like BV. I say that because somewhere along the way we lose objectivity. It’s a hard place to be for the filmmaker.
