1/6 My first PhD paper is out! 🥳

Interested in understanding tectonic activity within the framework of regional climate & geomorphology? Find out how the Bogd fault affects alluvial fans & drainage network evolution in #Mongolia: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
2/6 The Bogd fault ruptured during an M8.1 #earthquake in 1957, creating strike-slip offsets up to 7 m and vertical offsets up to 5 m.
60 years later, this famous offset ridge looks almost exactly the same as it did immediately post-earthquake:
3/6 The regional geomorphology reflects a long history of repeated earthquakes, but: do alluvial fans record this tectonic activity or are they merely a product of climatic variations?
4/6 Local #UAV and #GPR studies show that older fan levels record cumulative deformation, but regionally, 100 ka climate cycles induce incision and deposition of alluvial fans.
5/6 Vertical slip rates of the Bogd fault are <0.3 mm/yr along its highest restraining bend. Tilting of alluvial fan levels may however reflect uplift rates up to 1 mm/yr since the Middle Pleistocene! How come? And do the dynamics of alluvial fans even allow for such conclusions?
6/6 Hope you enjoy the paper. Please reach out if you would like to discuss anything further, or if you have any questions.
