Culinary Health Fund's Bobbette Bond notes that she thought it would be easier to get patients to come talk to the *~Patient~* Protection Commission. The commission heard from two patients today, and had one more patient's testimony read into the record.
The Patient Protection Commission has now taken up the conversation of... whether how drug prices are set should be trade secrets. As you can imagine, Culinary is continuing to push for it and PhRMA is opposed. Both Culinary and PhRMA reps sit on the commission.
PhRMA rep Flo Khan says they wouldn't be opposed to being included in an All Payer Claims Database proposal, but that they would want it to be done in a way that ensures the protection of confidential information.
The Patient Protection Commission is now debating their work plan and trying to figure out what to focus on before they have to start approving their bill draft requests. But there is not a lot of consensus on even how to proceed, let alone what to proceed with.
Theresa Bohannan, who was appointed to the commission as a patient rep: "This conversation is kind of like what patients go through every day, having to navigate so many different stakeholders, and so it's a hard process, I agree."
The Patient Protection Commission has voted unanimously to consider at its next meeting a possible BDR to enhance patient health care experiences and state outcomes by implementing transparency measures to help understand data trends.
The commission has also been talking about its work plan. But apparently it's not clear whether that work plan can be shared publicly or not. However, commission members have been referring to items #1 and #2, and it's been not clear what proposals they're actually referring to.
I can tell you some commission members liked items #1 and #2 and didn't like #3 and didn't think it served patient interests. But I'm not totally sure what items #1, 2 or 3 are.
And with that, the Patient Protection Commission's meeting is a wrap for today!
