In talking with educators about the #poddemic (my husband’s term, not mine🤣) a colleague made an observation:
“One thing that is occurring to me is that we need to also take into account that our capacity for work etc. is not at 100% because we are in a collective trauma!

But what we are asking is at 150% to reinvent everything! It's going too fast and is decreasing my capacity to think and be creative even more! My head is spinning!”
Know that some of the energy driving all this activity is more than just driven by a need to plan for the fall—it is also anxiety parents are feeling. Parents, please realize, teachers are feeling it too!
Teachers and other educators need the time and space to plan and they are really burning out with all these demands about what to expect in the fall.
Just like you, they are also operating at a lower capacity due to stress and anxiety related to COVID-brain, financial and health worries, shelter-in-place stress, and a fear of a fascism we see growing in our country.
Educators are feeling, empathetic people who go into teaching, counseling, social work, because they have an innate desire to care for our kids. Just like you they are both hopeful and nervous about the fall and thinking about how to make all this work in a terrible situation.
If you have capacity today, it would mean a lot if you could share some love with the educators in your life today. 🙏🏽💕
