Twitter just did a massive ban of QAnon accounts because its adherents are linked to planning violent attacks.

I wrote about this in October 2018. Based on the research and writing of others who saw same.

Not that anyone lost any time or anything.

Now, it’s an ideology of domestic terrorism with international counterparts sprouting off.

But sure. Wait *2 years* to react to a toxic, aggressive conspiracy theory that is recruiting extremists to kill Americans.
2 years during which THE PRESIDENT has been promoting Q, and now it is eating the brain of the Republican Party, candidates, voters.

So, something a little odd.

Today is the anniv of the Welles Declaration — when, in 1940, Acting Secretary of State Sumner Welles basically went rogue & stated the US would never recognize the Soviet occupation of the Baltic States.

It’s a big deal thing no one knows about /1 Image
Welles’ declaration — very much made on his own initiative, because he feared others would not have the guts to make it — set US policy for the next 50 years — the non-recognition of the occupation/annexation of the Baltic states. /2
This policy supported the resistance & independence movements in the Baltic states, allowing those movements & exiles to pursue a policy of statehood continuity, which was critical to the way that they eventually broke free from the USSR & reestablished themsleves as nations /3

Today would be a good day for Congress to pass legislation banning “green men” — aka security forces with no name tape or identifying agency — from operating domestically.

This is a basic point of law & order. Society can have no trust in law enforcement that hides its face. /1
Without requiring the very basic identification of what/who these forces are, it’s only a matter of time before someone pretending to be police —wearing the same uniforms bought off the shelf, carrying same shields that only say “police“ — appropriates this to do whatever. /2
Allowing the green men *endangers* law enforcement by eroding public trust & transparency, confusing authorities, lessening accountability, deepening the “us vs them” escalation mindset that leads to more violence and more dangerous situations. /3

The Kremlin conducts operations to populate their information campaigns -- to create an appearance of reality.

Throughout the recent protests, Fox/pro-Trump media has been using old/edited footage to amplify appearance of violence.

What's happening in Portland makes me wonder.
How much of this is about needing the violence somewhere, and picking a place where it is easy to spark, hard to explain?

Portland has had a complex landscape of far-right and far-left active protest factions for some time. Only a handful of experts understand it. /2
By making this jackboot bullsh*t video breaking news, the debate has been pulled back to a manufactured crisis instead of any of the real ones.

I don't want to feel this cynical. But someone needs to FOIA the sh*t out of the comms on this. /3
