I realise that seems flippant, but this DDOSing of democracy is, unfortunately, how Trump has been so successful. Doing so much wrong, so frequently and so quickly makes it difficult to focus public opinion (and thereby *pressure*) on any one crime.
By themselves, any one crime would've been a huge scandal in any other administration. Trump blundered into realising that the trick was to commit too many for his foes to keep track of.
And for them to be so extreme that, as @InnuendoStudios points out, accurately describing them seems like partisan embellishment. E.g. calling Obama corrupt was clearly partisan bluster, but what if the current president actually *is*?
Also, I want to stress here: Trump is not doing this consciously. Corrupt impunity describes his whole life. He becomes a walking sunk-cost fallacy for everyone who enables him. So continuing to be corrupt is literally all he knows how to do. slate.com/news-and-polit…
Ordinarily I'm not keen on the tell-all genre, but the Mary Trump book is valuable precisely for how it explores that. Trump is so privileged and yet so manifestly incompetent that he attracts people who want to take advantage of him but who then become implicated in his shit.
Thus, without consequences imposed on him he just keeps going, doing crimes. The same happened in the White House. And it accidentally hacked the entire informal system of accountability usually imposed on presidents. There's literally too many scandals for any one to matter.
