If we're going to keep the stats in mind, make sure you take a look at these stats from @zorinaq using Florida data. You can see the progression from young people to those about whom you're very concerned. Our vulnerable people don't live in bubbles.
@zorinaq Or, alternatively, this one which uses raw case counts. It's almost as though there is some form of transmission mechanism whereby the cases move from the younger population to the older population.
@zorinaq Why does this tweet make me nervous? @MattWolfAB is using these data to justify safety of school opening, which they don't do. The message he's sending is that if your age-specific bubble is over to the left, you've got little to worry about from COVID.
@zorinaq @MattWolfAB Which is, of course, what we know to have been a key driver of outbreaks not just in the US but also in the larger Canadian provinces.
As @sargeant_rowan points out, this is also not a statistically valid test in the sense that the data aren't showing you what happens if schools are open. It shows you the results of a response that has largely isolated kids from COVID since early March.
