This appointment is appalling. Vermeule is a proudly bigoted theocrat who pushes poisonous fascism cloaked in the pretentious garb of intellectualism. Truly a despicable move.
Vermeule is a crude bully to his students. He’s petty and vindictive, blocking anyone who even mildly criticizes his work. He’s not an intellectual, he’s a fascist who finds it amusing that he’s tricked so many people into believing otherwise.
In that last image, Vermeule was praising Orbán’s autocratic regime in Hungary for banning gender studies, writing: “So it is possible to fight the decay, after all.”

Also, he’s since deleted the tweet, but Vermeule claimed that law professors who supported Obergefell had embraced “fascism.” I honestly think that’s one of the less offensive of his pseudo-intellectual shock jock comments, but it shows you what kind of person he is.
To be clear, no, I absolutely do not want Vermeule fired from HLS. His despicable comments plainly fall under the scope of academic freedom. I just do not want him to serve in the federal fucking government!

Vermeule is also the kind of troll whose “jokes” make light of mass shootings. Now he will serve our nation in a federal agency.
