@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky vs Snowflake is going to be an interesting one. The relationship actually goes both ways (cooperative and competitive) but I agree with @Logos_LP that likely its a partnership that ultimately helps Alteryx.
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky Let’s start w competitve. Snowflake has an analytics compute engine that allows data scientists to run analytical code side-by-side w data (akin to Hadoop’s structure a bit). This is what they are selling as being so much faster. Alteryx is not supported on this capability.
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky But as cooperative, Alteryx is featured on Snowflake’s sale deck as an ETL partner. So they fully support using Alteryx to do data prep and manipulation, to then save into Snowflake’s data warehouse. This is a major use of Alteryx... all the steps you can do before the analysis.
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky Ultimately, Snowflake supports DB clients to hook up to it, so Alteryx can still run analytics over Snowflake data (nothing is blocking it). But not as part of Snowflake’s inline compute so it cannot harness the speed/locational benefits of running side-by-side w the data.
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky Alteryx is making stronger moves into cloud compute under their new APA platform. I would love to see them more tightly partner w Snowflake to integate into Snowflake compute. That would be a really powerful combination for their “citizen data scientists”.
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky But to be clear, Snowflake is NOT going to disrupt Alteryx and is NOT specifically going after analytics themselves, they just enable companies to do it themselves (aka data scientists).
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky I could foresee Snowflake starting partnerships to exploit this side more (like they already are on ETL side) and would be a fantastic one to hook into! That would make an extremely powerful 1-2 punch.
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky Just to make one thing clearer, the in-db connector in the partnership PR linked upthread allows Alteryx to offload analytical queries into Snowflake. Basically it is using SQL calls in Snowflake (which does reside in Snowflake’s compute) instead of doing it externally.
@SeifelCapital @stronghobbit @Logos_LP @DPogrebinsky Where I hope to see this partnership extend is into Snowflake’s Data Science platform. This would allow a deeper integration into their distributed compute where the models would run inline too. snowflake.com/use-cases/enab…
