Your Coronavirus Antibodies Are Disappearing. Should You Care? - The New York Times

You know the Abbott and Roche antibody tests? The U.K. Gov bought up 10 million (cost?) and the validation process has been criticised.

It’s worse.

Only antibodies that recognize the R.B.D. can neutralize the virus and prevent infection.

But the Roche and Abbott tests that are now widely available instead look for antibodies to a protein called the nucleocapsid, or N, that is bound up with the virus’s genetic material.
Scientists were stunned when they heard that.

“That’s crazy...It’s kind of puzzling to design a test that isn’t looking for what’s thought to be the major antigen.”

In fact it is likely the are designed to look for the type that is not immunity protective AND disappear faster
Well Roche points to PHE validation.

But that validation process has been criticised as inadequate.

How much has this cost us again? Tests, lab & admin facilities and time?
That kinda answers my question about whether it identified the two antibodies that were thought to play an active neutralising rôle.

The answer seems to be “no”.
