So much anti-cyclist hate on Twitter right now. If for even a heartbeat you're tempted to be part of that then let me break this down for you. Every person on a bike rather than in a car is a win for you, a win for the environment and a win for the economy. Get a bike. Ride.
I mean does this need spelling out? Someone else on a bike is taking up less space, there's more for you. They're not making the world noisier, dirtier or hotter. Its better for you, however you travel, that they're on a bike than in a car.
There is no context in which it benefits you that more people drive than ride bikes. They're not making your life harder or worse. There is only one thing that benefits you more than them riding bikes, and thats you riding one.
There is no point at which anyone posting anti-cyclist hate is doing so rationally. Because there is no form of hate directed against cyclists that is rational. None. At all. Ever.
Its about identity and privilege. Stop identifying as a 'motorist' and defining cyclists as 'other'. Its an absurdity. Someone riding a bike isn't a statement about you, its not a criticism of you. It. Is. Not. About. You.
So when you're tempted to post cyclist hate stop, think about it, and don't do it. It doesn't reflect badly on them. Its all on you.
