This is a very welcome step from the government and any policy that reduce the burden of #obesity obesity is very welcome. But this step fall short of a whole system approach that addressed the multiple factors contributing to obesity simultaneously

#obesity is multi factorial and results from complex interactions between variety of biological, environmental & societal factors. Addressing these multiple factors is key to prevent obesity and treat people who already developed obesity.

It is also important that any #obesity policy taken does not worsen inequalities, which are major contributor to the obesity epidemic that we currently have.

It is also important that any action is taken is considered within the context of the experiences of people living with #obesity

However, most of the policy announced today is aimed at #obesity prevention rather than treatment. These steps will do little for people with severe obesity (BMI >=40, 3.6% of the UK population). So it is important the prevention & treatment are done simultaneously

So we look forward to the details about what expanding in NHS weight management services are planned to provide treatment to people living with #obesity . We believe that improved access to all treatment options is needed

It is also important to acknowledge that support for #obesity is needed (regardless of treatment modality) as long term strategy & not short term quick fix. Obesity is a chronic disease & should be treated as such (like hypertension etc) @EASOobesity
