🧵 1/ If you're a brand and had $1M to spend on either primetime TV or a streaming site like @Twitch - which would provide the better ROI?

Let's look at the math.

In 2014, Twitch's primetime audience was 715,000 (bigger than some cable nets).

nytimes.com/interactive/20…
2/ However that’s not nearly apples-to-apples as TV data are Nielsen ratings and Twitch data was “a six-day moving average of the daily maximum number of viewers”

Let’s try to get that comparison closer. Assuming that AMA is 50% of Peak, that brings the total down to 357,500.
3/ According to Twitch Tracker, @Twitch Avg. Concurrent Viewers has grown by 550% from 2014 to 2020.

Let's be conservative and add 400% growth, which raises the primetime audience to 1,430,000.
4/ However, that's a global number. @Twitch US audience is ~25% of total, so that reduces the number to 357,500.

According to @Sportico , @ABC without the @NBA has seen it's audience in the coveted 18-49 demo drop 54% to 590,000 per night
5/ @Twitch 18-49 demo is 75% of audience, a comparable primetime audience = 268,125.

The Avg :30 sec spot for primetime ABC is ~$100,000.

So while @Twitch reach is about half of ABC - what ad package could you get for $1M vs. (10) :30 sec commercials?

🎮 vs. 📺
