This is the most fundamental point: we can’t make a school or a business or a stadium safe when the country isn’t safe.

Businesses convince themselves that if everyone behaves perfectly & the tests work perfectly that they can somehow make it work—because they feel like they have no option financially but to try.
This inevitably fails, and when it does, it makes the pandemic worse.

We have one of the worst outbreaks in the world, probably worse than it even was in March.
We shouldn't be talking about reopening at all. We should be talking about what we need to do to crush the virus like most other rich countries have.

We're spending so much time talking about how to perfectly calibrate a lockdown, doing just enough to contain the virus without doing too much. It's just the wrong debate to be having. It'd be better to throw everything at stopping this thing than to not do enough.
