2/4 The gold chain & pendant in the photo were also stolen. They must have been melted down by now. But we suspect it will be difficult for the criminals to dispose of the larger necklace because it will be difficult to melt down (the gold balls are gold leaf on some kind of wax)
3/4 My mother has somewhat reconciled to the loss of her valuables, but the fact that this heirloom was taken is upsetting. It has been handed down from matriarch to matriarch over the generations. According to family tradition, it rightfully belongs to my 11-year-old niece.
