#a2council needs to support change (thread)...

The changes Ann Arbor *needs* in housing policy (whatever we decide they might be) are not going to be easy changes to make, but trying to protect us all from change is 100% assured of making everything worse.

This is, for example, why "protecting neighborhood character" is, w/ total certainty, the wrong *policy* choice. We need to collaborate to *change* the character of our neighborhoods w/ policies crafted to *improve* them.
There *are* problems w/ them.

To do that we will need some help from "neighborhood character protectors". Such voices can *help* in the process of policy making to filter out potential negative consequences that might not be so easily seen by those of us more excited about change.

BUT #a2council members & resident who claim prevention & delay of change equals "protection" are only helping those least in need of receiving that protection.

The bottom line is: we need to change zoning & build more housing of all types in Ann Arbor.

Our current council majority is failing us.

So let's elect new #a2council council members who have the education, experience, and personal investment in the Ann Arbor community to work with others productively to bring about the changes that we need here in Ann Arbor.

A rhetorical aside: I hope ppl reading this thread note the included informative videos & images. We need to educate ourselves about important issues in ways that point us toward responding w/ intelligence to the challenges we face.
