The idea that cisallohet people shouldn't use 'partner' for their significant other, or that it's a term purely to be used by queer and trans people, is baffling and frightening because it would mean that using the term 'partner' would immediately out you or your partner.
I mean: the whole point is that it's not always safe to reveal that you are queer or trans, and you don't always know whether a situation is safe to reveal you are queer or trans, so normalizing the word 'partner' across the board is important from a safety point of view.
My mum is a tutor, and she uses the term 'partner' to refer to her wife if the subject comes up with the kids or parents of the kids she tutors, because until she knows for sure that they're going to be cool with it, she needs something neutral that won't immediately out her.
Normalize EVERYONE using gender neutral terms, not just queer and trans folk.
That awkward moment when you're so focused on deciding who can and can't say what words and when, that you straight up forget about considering the safety of other queer and trans folk.
Didn't see that @1tsundere_child had said this earlier and way more concisely than my ranting, so go share please.
