I read this new education policy 2020 draft, in general It is a well articulated document. Whoever is in power the policy documents are normally drafted with a handpicked words. So no need to go into those ornamental texts of the document.

#NewEducationPolicy2020 1/n
The policy estimates 6% GDP allocation to the education but let us see how this is going to be implemented.

The introduction section glorify the ancient Indian educational system and it says the new policy will rollout the features of that system.

2/n
Maybe, that’s the reason they are promoting childhood education as part of their proposed 5+3+3+4 system. And also the proposal suggests to have Sanskrit as a subject to all students along with other classical languages.

3/n
Sanskrit is not spoken widely and what is the reason to promote that language, although it’s not said directly the laymen’s interpretation is Sanskrit is a language across the country.

4/n
The Gross Enrolment Ratio in TamilNadu is 49% whereas India’s average is 26%, TamilNadu has achieved this by providing various motivational schemes to students. But this new draft will be hindrance for example the proposed assessment at Grade 3, 5 and 8 will put loads 5/n
of pressure on the young children, parents & teachers.

This move will lead to have more dropouts than increase in enrolments. In addition to this students will now have an option to choose their subjects in their secondary school level this is another step taken backward6/n
and promoting vocational training’s would indirectly make the students to choose non professional stream as their selective and promote disparity among students and parents.

Allowing local eminent to handle school subjects will be biased. Based on the current learning,7/n
only people who are supported by the political affiliations will be allowed to handle those classes which means students will be diverted to a particular political ideology.

Conducting a national level eligibility test after so many assessments will lead to promoting more8/n
coaching center. This means this policy is portraying education is a competition not a learning platform.

Allowing private players to access government funds based on the so called merit, a fair level playing field is denied to the remote establishments.9/n
This will not create an equality rather promote disparity. The draft claims that it would stop commercialism in education do they think allowing private and foreign players are in this field for charity. 10/n
In general this policy is not good for future India’s education and it trying flavour certain sections of the community and focusing on labour market not the true essence of education 11/11
