 There are two ideas I keep seeing on twitter I think need to be addressed.

The first is that there is no such thing as Cancel Culture (or anything like it), the second is that what we call Cancel Culture is actually a good thing.

Lets deal with them one at a time shall we?

 Want to know how activists in places like Portland take over roads, smash windows, light buildings on fire, and still have the press call them non-violent? Well, as it turns out these are well trained activists using intelligent, highly developed tactics.

 For starters, none of this is spontaneous.
Note that many protestors have shields. These shields take 3 hours each to make and are created by a group of 25 volunteers working all day.

You don't do that spontaneously. It takes planning.

 It isn't just the shields that are planned, everything is, from what protestors wear, to the tactics chosen in each situation.

The protestors also have a highly developed understanding of the information and media ecosystem and the tactics that work in that environment.

 Free speech is about which of these to thoughts comes to mind first when someone says something you hate:

"It's a free country"
Or
"let's find out where he works."

The first is the impulse of freedom, the second is the impulse of an authoritarian.

 If your first impulse when someone says something horrible is to think "I must shut them up" instead of "they can say what they want" then you are already adopting the mindset of an authoritarian.

Do you want freedom for all or freedom only for people who agree with you?

 It doesn't matter if they use social power instead of government regulations to shut people up.

"I'm not using the government to punish him for what he said, I'm using social power and clout to get him fired from his job so he can't pay his mortgage."
