Ghar Wapsi attempts have always been there in Sanatan Dharma. However forces of resistance have been increasingly more strong. Deval Samhita was written to create prayashchit for converted after Qasim attack. But casteists questioned its authenticity. +
Karpatri Maharaj wrote a book condemning Savarkar for endorsing this Samhita as opposed to more authentic (rigid) Shaastra. Even the more liberal Medatithi commentary on Manu Smriti was rejected as spurious. +
By 1970, when laws were enforced against Jaativaad, the liberal stand of Jaativaadi on Shuddhi was that it can happen only if done within a short period of conversion. Next gen conversion meant getting Hindu status but NOT social, economic integration. +
The fact that reconverts were demanded to eat half kg cowdung for Shuddhi shows the mentality. Yet while many tried to reconvert, it somehow became more and more an exception. +
And here we are where in many parts of nation, despite massive work done by reformers of Sangh, Sabhaa, Samaj, Bhakti movements etc, we refuse to be missionary religion and worry about Jaati of one who comes back. +
Deval Samhita - extremely liberal compared to others - is so out of favor that it is hard to get even a proper translation. British ruled us, and Jaativaadi supported it, via the Mitakshara commentary of Yajnavalkya Samhita that is extremely casteist and anti Vedic. +
We can keep debating history & genesis of this. But right way ahead is to agree this is a curse and unite to make all one Hindu Jaati. And synergize to build muscles and ward off predators. Let there be zero acceptance of Jaativaad and full focus on reviving missionary Dharma
