Palestinian Propaganda

To understand the damage R. Timoner’s video & similar social media did to American Jews & the American

Jewish Community, it is necessary to understand Palestinian propaganda & how it works. Fortunately, the antidote is evident & easily applicable - If American Jewish leadership has the will. Otherwise, American Jews & American Judaism will suffer significantly.

Last summer’s

Israel Studies volume, “Word Crimes,” does an excellent job describing the goal & methodology of Palestinian propaganda. It is war on another front. The goal is complete delegititimization of the Jewish State. The strategy is to paint Israel as the manifestation of evil, the

root of all evil in the modern world.

The tactics the authors outline involve appropriating social evils as they are identified & asserting that Israel is the author & practitioner. Often, this means completely flipping reality, as in Holocaust inversion, where Jews become

the cause of their own Holocaust & are accused of behaving like Nazis to the Palestinians. The language of Palestinian propaganda has appropriated the language of social protest including “colonialism, apartheid, occupation, intersectionality, pinkwashing, genocide, human rights

BDS, Islamophobia, Israel lobby, Zionism, Anti-Zionism, terrorism, & settlements.” This summer, we add “Jewish privilege” & the supposed Jewish role in on-going racism, whether the lie about Israeli training of US police in brutal tactics or the Jewish, slave-owning past.

Lying & denying are accompanying methodology, as in Hitler’s Big Lie & denying the role Palestinian violence, jihadism, & the jihadi goal of annihilating the Jewish State play in Palestinian politics. Palestinians cultivated a relationship with Nazi leaders from the time of

Mufti Hussein during WW II. They were familiar w/ Goebbel’s strategy of accusing the enemy of what you, yourself, are doing, & Palestinian propaganda applies this dictum to this day. Pallywood regularly tweets photos of child deaths from other conflicts & attributes these to

Israeli brutality; police action from Palestinians, themselves & attributes falsified photos to Israeli policy; & castigates Israel for child abuse, housing demolitions, & abuse of Palestinians when they carry out these practices themselves. We are aware of 100 years of Arab &

Palestinian massacres of Jews & each other; Palestinian practice of using human shields, training & urging child warriors, vehicular manslaughter, knifings, multiple forms of suicide bombing, sending missiles at civilian targets. We know Iran shares Palestinian goals &

methodology, & has been Palestinians’ main supporter for 40 years. We know Palestinian Propaganda obscures all of this to paint Palestinians as innocent victims in the face of unspeakably evil Israeli behavior. PA & Hamas charters swearing annihilation of the Jewish State &

rejection of all International Law legitimizing Jewish claims to land are similarly obscured, as is jihad against the Jewish State as the signifying rationale for multiple Palestinian rejections of statehood - as long as the Jewish State exists.

The most insidious Pallywood

technique is using Jews to denounce the Jewish State. Starting in the academic setting, where Jews cooperate in Israel bashing to advance their careers, Gerald Steinberg shows how this practice has permeated NGO’s into activist, political, & UN settings, w/HRW, Amnesty Int’l &

others providing talking points for SJP, bringing the loop back to the campus. As the originators of “intersectionality,” lesbian activists & Women’s Studies academics take a leading role in subverting Jews & pushing the Palestinian propaganda line.

As a prominent, lesbian

rabbi & career activist in women’s issues prior to becoming a rabbi, it is not surprising to see R. Timoner expressing the standard, intersectionality position in her video. But, for the standard, life-long, Reform Jew, this position is an unacceptable slap in the face &

contrary to everything we have been taught.

R. Timoner prioritizes the well-being of Palestinians’ over the rights & well-being of Jewish Israelis: Palestinians, who express over & over their wish to annihilate the Jewish State, & who consistently act on this goal.

R. Timoner leaps headlong into a universalist definition of Judaism, erasing להבדיל basis of Torah, the concept that there is a distinction between the Jewish community & the rest of the world, that there is a difference in values & behavior. In so doing, Timoner & the Reform

community she represents in the largest Reform synagogue in Brooklyn & in the passively supportive URJ itself, erase not only the Jewish State, but the raison d’être of Judaism. Timoner & thé URJ become an instrument of jihadi Islam, & they lead American Jews down this path.

The opposite of shame is pride. What American Jews need from their rabbinic leadership is messages of pride in Judaism & the Jewish State. Instead of Judaism as abasement , whether bowing our heads in shame for our supposed “white privilege” or purported abuse of Palestinians

seeking Israel’s destruction, American Jews need our rabbis to remind us to feel pride in the 10 commandments, & in the notion of taking “more for large groups & less for small groups.” American Jews need our rabbis to give us messages of pride in Israel’s survival for 72 years

against great odds & constant strife & pride in Israeli achievements in multiple fields.

Anything else places Reform Judaism on the side of Palestinian propaganda, Israel’s enemies, & Judaism’s detractors. Anything else encourages American Jews to abandon Reform Judaism for the

empty shell it has become.
