Now the thread!
OVERwritten and UNDERdeveloped. You're exactly sure what you want to say, so you keep writing around the point. Maybe saying the same vague thing 5 ways will work? Or nah? Especially common on complex, technical topics. (1/9)
Jargon over vernacular. The Gold Standard of easy-to-read content is the 5th grade reading level. Can a 10-year-old understand you enough to take action and get the result? They can if you use everyday language rather than terminology they don't. (2/9)
Step by step with several steps skipped. Have you ever seen a recipe that tells you to frost the cake batter, bake the cake without flour, then dump the eggs and flour on top? No? That's how most content creators give instructions. Yikes. (3/9)
"Really happy . . . very strong . . . truly interested . . . run quickly." Nope, nah, naw, and hella no. If she was really happy, what was she? Say what you mean. Don't make me guess. (4/9)
"Running, climbing, and to jump." We all learned not to break parallelism like this in grade school. Y'all's tweets tell me otherwise. 👀 5/9
Using 3 or more prepositions in one sentence (e.g., of, from, between, in, at, for) is a no-no. @EdLatimore explained yesterday why you should never do this. 👇🏻

6/9
Saying "not" when you can say whatever the affirmative is. The subconscious is unable to process can't / don't / not. Don't think of a yellow snowman. What are you thinking of? 7/9
Assuming readers know everything you do. Common in business, self-help, and other technical topics. Know who your readers are before you write. 8/9
Assuming readers don't know anything you do. This is a corollary to the previous tweet. Again, know who your readers are so they don't feel insulted . . . or like you don't know anything because you're discussing elementary topics. 9/9
