A polo shirt isn’t just a polo shirt.

There are tons of different options out there.

Let’s cover a few of them:
1 – Cotton pique

The most common option of them all. You’ll see most guys sporting these. Nothing wrong with them per se but I recommend you avoid the cheaper options most guys wear.

They go to hell very quickly.
I’ve got 2 Lacoste cotton pique polos in my wardrobe. Fantastic quality and they have been holding up really well - this is one of them:
2 – Knit polo

This is the option I’ve been pushing hard on guys. It’s a bit more polished looking vs the cotton pique and looks deadly when paired with some nicer dress trousers.

Bonus points if you pick one up in a linen blend.
3 – Long sleeve polo

These have made a resurgence in men’s style over the past couple seasons. Great for the fall/winter season but something you can pull off during the spring/summer if you look for an option in warm weather fabrics.
4 – Zippered polo

Another option that has grown in popularity over the past few years. I was not a big fan of these initially but have since grown to like them. Reiss makes the best options out there (they have most variety too).

5 – Cuban collar polo

A nice variation to your regular point collar option. Has a bit more of a retro vibe as well.
6 – Open collar polos

Traditional polos have a buttoned placket.

But the open collar or buttonless polo is a great alternative. A very clean, sharp aesthetic. Great for dressing up.

And that's just some of the available options.

Didn't even talk about retro style polos, button down polos, deeper placket polos, or popover shirts...

Just know that you don't HAVE to wear a basic cotton pique polo like most other men. There are other great options out there.
