Ryan gave a heartwarming testimony about the Foothills discussion and civil rights. Is a long time Caltrain rider. We need it to reduce traffic, reduce emissions. Riders don't care about government squabbles. Send a letter to letters in Congress!
Public Comment:
Jamie says that sales tax should be on the ballot. We need Caltrain to be the bridge for our relationships. "Please do everything you can to support Caltrain." Expresses support for Mayor Fine's letter.
Public comment:
Kelsey supports stable funding for Caltrain. Need to invest in public transit to avoid crushing traffic. Ballot measure would actually support and subsidize low income communities. Palo Alto must support a clean ballot measure.
Public comment:
Rebecca says that the sales taxes are regressive but supports infrastructure and investments. Palo Alto is the only city in the state who refuses to tax businesses. Business tax can exempt all small businesses.
Public comment:
Kevin points out it's Tuesday! 🥳
The sales tax is necessary to keep it continuing, it may be regressive but Caltrain is looking at equity proposals. City Council - send a letter in support of clean sales tax measure.
@IbanSadowski Hello! "I hope everyone here realizes that public transportation is a lifeline" Regressive sales taxes are unacceptable. Supports a clean tax for Caltrain with no political drama. Supports the letter from Mayor Fine.
Public comment:
Adina says the window exists to get the tax on the ballot. Agree with other callers about the crushing traffic post pandemic. People DO plan to come back to Caltrain according to surveys.
Public comment:
Rohin says it's important to preserve transit options especially ones that keep cars of the street.
Public comment:
Jordan agrees that sales tax is aggressive but what is MORE regressive is a shutdown of the biggest public transit systems on the peninsula. Urges council to support the clean measure.
Councilmembers:
Kniss is concerned about governance.
Mayor Fine supports putting it on the ballot.
DuBois expresses support but also governance changes.
Cormack supports the motion. Giving voters the opportunity to decide.

Councilmembers:
Tanaka rode an electric skateboard while taking the Caltrain 👀

Should we use this opportunity to address grade separation? It's late.
Councilmember Kou -
Keeping it brief. Doesn't like sales taxes. It's regressive. But is going to voters. Leave it for voters to determine.
