Under the cover of COVID, the Trump admin is finally able to do what Katie Miller told me they hoped family separations would scare Congress into allowing back in 2018: immediately expel kids who arrive in the U.S. seeking asylum. Incredible reporting, as always, from @lomikriel.
On 6/20/18 Trump said “I didn’t like the sight or feeling of families being separated” as he signed EO “ending” separations. Goal was to force Congress to allow what admin is now doing, as I write in “Separated: Inside an American Tragedy.”

Other goal was to hold migrant families indefinitely in ICE detention, which they’re doing, too, despite a judge’s order that the children should be released weeks ago and the Trump admin has the discretion to release them together *now* if they wanted. nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1…
