me as assignment editor: write a long piece re: 2020 GOP convention as the hook into the complete unraveling of modern day GOP.

zero common sense; cannot stop themselves from doing monumental stupid things—-like comically stupid things
GOP donors gave $40M for Charlotte convention, which is not happening...except couple meetings.

convention moved to Jacksonville, GOP has to raise all new money for event that also might not happen!
it just gets better and better and better.....
