The most ordered dish on Uber Eats in all of South East Asia - a vegetarian hot dog comes from a shop in Indore!

Vijay Singh Rathore, fondly called “Dadu” by his customers, runs a humble shop called Johny Hot Dog (JHD) with only 3 items on the menu.

Late 1970’s, Rathore was doing odd jobs at local stalls, collecting money to start his own business. His goal was to collect atleast 500rs.

Inspired by his mother’s cooking, he started working with her on the recipe for the hot dog - a flat bread with a tikki/ cutlet inside it.

This hot dog was only similar to its American counter part in its structure - a sliced bun with a filling in it. The shape of it was more like a flattened burger which is served with ketchup, chutney and onions.

Something that could be had for breakfast, lunch or even dinner.

Rathore opened the doors to public in 1978 and began with 3 simple items on the menu -

• Mutton Hot Dog
• Egg Hot Dog
• Veg Hot Dog

The menu hasn’t changed in 40 years! Rathore keeps up with the big brand competition by investing more in the quality of ingredients he uses.

He was invited to the @UberEats Food Summit held in Hong Kong in July 2019 where he was representing JHD in the company of some of the biggest brands like McD, KFC, etc.

He received the “Most Popular Menu Item in Asia Pacific” award. It was also his first international flight.

Rathore now owns two shops where he sells the same menu items. They manage to sell close to 4000 pieces every day for an average price of Rs.30/ hot dog.
