It's all really just depressing. I hope that somehow, against all odds and everything experts have said might happen, that teachers, students, school employees, and everyone else can stay safe.
It's really sad and gross that rather than finding a way to safely open schools, there are instead politicians who think that we can all more or less just pretend there's not a pandemic happening. All the, "C'mon, you gotta have football!" "Requiring masks? PFFFT." stuff.
Instead of the discussion being "Okay, what needs to be done to make sure schools are safe enough to open if they can open at all?" it's just being framed like, "Suck it up, pretend like it's not there. Go about your lives as if nothing's changed."
Because as much as the "Open everything up"/"No masks"/"No distancing"/"Literally no changes to my life in any way, shape, or form are acceptable" crowd wants to believe that the rest of us want to just stay inside forever, we'd all very much like to resume some sort of normality
And what sucks about this is that the more we try to just resume things in ways that only spread the virus more, the longer it'll take to get back to anything near normal.
It's like if you have a cut and instead of just letting the scab heal and go away, you scratch it off before it's ready, re-opening the cut and making it last way longer. (This is something I struggle with personally)

We are the country that can't stop picking at scabs.
Also, just thinking about what kind of personal nightmare it’d be if you have a student who picks up the virus at school, brings it home and infects a relative who dies from it. I can’t even imagine how guilty someone might feel after that.
