Our new seroprevalence study in Connecticut done w/ @QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab & support from @CTDPH @CDCgov now @medrxivpreprint; bottom line…small percentage of people in CT have evidence of antibodies & many engaged in mitigation activities. @YaleMed medrxiv.org/content/10.110…
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed In our study we engaged @Gallup to do our best to get a representative cohort…using techniques from polling to improve up prior convenience sample studies. We also gathered information about behaviors and exposures. Our estimate is 3.1%.
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed The seroprevalence may not tell us exactly who is immune… antibodies level drop a bit over time… antibodies may not confer immunity… but they give a sense of the prior infection (when the recent infection was demarcated in a near period) and probably also who is susceptible.
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed We can quibble about meaning of antibodies… but low prevalence in Connecticut suggests most population is still susceptible.
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed To provide perspective… The total CT positive rate in Connecticut from @QuestDX from those being tested for antibodies is 8.8%, and that is likely biased higher than the real rate. The CDC estimate from residual bloods was almost 5%, the top of our 90% confidence interval.
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed The survey data indicates that people in Connecticut followed @GovNedLamont recommendations and employed strategies to mitigate risk… almost everyone has used masks to some extent… distancing behaviors very common. Certainly contributed to our State’s success so far.
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed @GovNedLamont The message from this study is that CT is likely highly vulnerable & must continue good habits to maintain our current status. We need continued vigilance… we can live our lives… but should also take care and continue to mitigate the risk of spread. #holdtheprogress
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed @GovNedLamont Next step is finishing phase 2 of the study, which is focusing on the highest risk populations, including Black and Hispanic communities. Shining light on their experience.
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed @GovNedLamont And big thank you to CT citizens who participated in our seroprevalence study…& to those made calls, those who did the tests, those who did the scheduling and more. @shiwani_mahajan, who provided leadership…and all our team. So many contributed so much to produce this study.
@QuestDX @Gallup @jacksonlab @CTDPH @CDCgov @medrxivpreprint @YaleMed Another important part of our @medrxivpreprint is that we are studying people in the community. Not congregate settings, so not nursing homes, not prisons/jails and so on. @thehowie
