One black man’s thoughts on Biden’s remarks on Hispanics having diversity of thought as opposed to black people:
I think on the merits what Biden said was true, but not for the reasons people think:
Let’s face it, black people are a near monolith when it comes to voting and politics.
Too many see race as the end all and be all. Black people vote upwards of 90% for Democrats. And the vast majority of that vote is based on racial considerations beyond anything else.
No matter what other reason they state, underlying all of those reasons (economics, civil rights, religion), race motivates black people in a way that’s unhealthy, especially because of the herd mentality it produces.
Now, in many other ways, black people are not in the least bit monolithic as can be said about any other racial group. Let that not be missed.
But when it comes to voting and questions of race, there is no better monolith than the black community. It’s not even close.
It’s also true that Biden has a history of objectivity racist comments and not just from his days of friendship with George Wallace and Strom Thurmond. From this year’s campaign:
“Poor kids are just as smart as white kids.”
“If you don’t know who you’re voting for between me and Trump, you ain’t black.”
His question to a black reporter about whether he took a cocaine test.
Many things can be true at once. It’s true that Biden can be far more racist and condescending to black people than people want to admit. It can also be true that black people are a monolith on politics.
It can also be true that the anger from that particular comment can stem from not wanting to have the mirror held up to you that way.
It can also be true that there can be a racist motive behind the statement or at least a racially insensitive one.
On that note, I have no sympathy for black people who claim to not be a monolith while casting votes based on racial considerations.

Rant over.
