Thread on ORGANIC FARMING
Part Two: a glimpse of what an organic farm entails
The fertility you bring in the soil is important. This can be done at the lowest cost to keep your profit up. You could get HEAPS of wood chips from arborists for a good fungal rich compost and the carbon they contain. Great carbon source
The second HEAP you can expect is i.e chicken manure for compost. The Heap will stink 🤣. So the chicken heap allows for your nitrogen source. Both HEAPS together could give you a great compost. Basically ensure your soil invites the right microbes.
Most organic farmers believe in mixed farming between plants and animals to keep the recycling going and not having to buy much inputs. So expect a cycle in organic farms.
Stages of farming organic method vs conventional method. What to replace in the different stages.
I will repeat. One of the key thing to remember about organic farming is that you enrich the SOIL and BIODIVERSITY as opposed to just mining the soil for profit.
Some farmers grow a cover crop buckwheat (a taproot plant that brings up minerals from way down in the soil) and millet, the buckwheat provides forage for animals.
Rotational grazing for i.e chickens and pigs. They will graze the area... Their manure will fertilize the plot. Then you will till it all back in the soil and plant. This further emphasizes the farming in a sustainable manner using nature.
If you see these, be happy. Smile 💚
